OUR STORY

SKAPED (derived from the Norwegian word for ”create” - skape) aims to empower young people to create positive change within their communities. We believe that, in order to create a more connected world, individuals must cultivate a better connection. with themselves.
Founded by Sandy AbdelRahman and Thay Graciano, Skaped is rooted in their respective lived experiences as migrant young women in the UK, their dedication to social action, and their shared love of the arts.

Skaped is an artivist organisation that leads through care and acceptance.

Skaped was first set up as a volunteer-led organisation in 2017, and after establishing proof of concept, we converted to a registered charity in August 2020. Despite the challenges of launching in the midst of a pandemic, we pivoted quickly, taking Skaped online.
As a women-led community, we are recognised for our collaborative and co-designing approach with our community to ensure that our work aligns with our young people’s needs and that they get the most out of their experience with Skaped.

We deliver uniquely relatable creative workshops and educational programming that facilitates a personal and collective exploration of identity, intersectionality, community building, and social change issues.

We have run a range of diverse programming, including workshops relating to:
RACISM
BODY IMAGE
GENTRIFICATION
DISCRIMINATION
FEMINISM
MENTAL HEALTH + WELLBEING
All in non-judgmental peer-group settings that speak to what matters most to the young people we work with.

By creating programming that calls for engaging in internal reflection on individual identities and the self in a creative, accepting way, our participants are more likely to build powerful connections and engage so that they may come together to inculcate community action. We believe that through intentionally cultivating empathetic environments, radical relationships are built.

We envision a more just world in which young people are equipped with the skills and confidence necessary to create the change they wish to see through their own artistic expression.
